Library evacuated in bomb scare

The University Library and Academic Services building were evacuated after a suspicious device was found inside the AS building bathroom Tuesday night. Police were called to the scene by a concerned phone call, and later both the Long Beach Police Department and the Los Angeles Sheriff's Office were called in to assist.

The buildings were evacuated by University Police at 9:37 p.m. with little explanation and directed towards Parking Lot 6. The Sheriff's Office determined the device was not dangerous, and the both buildings were reopened at 11 p.m.

History major Jeffrey Chu expressed skepticism about the incident. "It was probably just some idiots trying to get out of something. I think the whole thing was overblown."

Trinh "Jason" Minh, a finance major, thought it was better to err on the side of caution. "It's better to do too much than too little. What if it was real?"

This is not the first time CSULB has had bomb threats. In 2010, Lecture Halls 150 and 151 were closed, but no threat was found after a police search. In 2009, an improvised explosive device was found at the recycling center by University Police.
